I am the man with verses in his head
without these verses written, I'd be dead.
I'll force a laugh, I'll force a silly rhyme,
a perfect tool, I think, for passing time.

I started bleeding verse in middle school,
a tired loser, rotund and uncool,
but things can change, oh I was loved and lost,
and (natur'lly) by this fucked-up tempest tossed.

I'm in my 20s now, I'm living on,
(and also, by some standards, living wrong)
but I do what I must (and so it goes)
and what will I write next? Nobody knows.

Oh look, a sonnet! but I forced some rhymes.
Thank God I won't hang for that petty crime.

And Jesus said that he
was the light of the world, but we
are too, even without such
steadfast divinity and bland holiness.

He may be the clear white light,
but we are the color, imperfections
making us shine green and blue,
and every color, on and off the rainbow.

We recognize these colors, we look
up at night, and try to attune
ourselves to the most beautiful colors
that we can see.

From here, we look through filters;
smog and refracted light deceive
our eyes — and we are flawed!
We attribute ugliness and insignificance
to the most beautiful lights
in the whole of the universe.

“You know
that in nine hundred years
of time and space,
I’ve never met
anybody
who
wasn’t
important.”

The universe remembers
and wants us to do the same.
Do not trust your eyes,
so often deceived;
we speak heart to heart,
light to light,

and light
cannot be denied.

A couple of notes.

  • The quoted stanza is a quote from the Eleventh Doctor / The TV Programme “Doctor Who”. It’s an amazing show, and if you’re not watching it, you should be (start with Series 1, episode “Rose”)

  • This was inspired by visiting the page for This Star Won’t Go Out. I am a rather new Nerdfighter (assuming that I can use that name, without being sworn in, or undergoing some kind of hazing ritual). Anyway, I’ve just started reading John Green’s books, and following their vlogs and stuff). I never got the chance to meet Esther or anything.

But it’s just a crushing story. I lost one of my best friends to ALL. We met online, but her treatment when she came out of remission brought her close enough for me to visit. I can’t believe it’s been almost 3 years. I miss you, sweetie.
